Functions
newAD2 provides three types of functions that can be used in the functions section.
Functions over Mueller matrices
They are used to obtain the quantity corresponding to a given measurement type from the Mueller matrix of the measurement, mueller_matrix, defined in the sample measurements section.
-
IsIcIn(mueller_matrix)
The function
$$ M =\left( \begin{array}{cccc} 1 & -I_{\rm n} & 0 & 0 \\ -I_{\rm n} & 1 & 0 & 0 \\ 0 & 0 & I_{\rm c} & I_{\rm s} \\ 0 & 0 & -I_{\rm s} & I_{\rm c} \\ \end{array} \right) \,. $$IsIcInassumes that the previously defined Mueller matrix corresponds to a measurement on a sample with the highest symmetry (isotropic). This function then returns the three independent values of the normalized matrix, \(I_{\rm s}\), \(I_{\rm c}\) and \(I_{\rm n}\): -
M00(mueller_matrix)
M00(alternative nameRorT) is a function that returns the \(M_{00}\) element of the Mueller matrix, corresponding to the average intensity of the s- and p-polarized components. Depending on the type of the Mueller matrix of the measurement, it corresponds to reflectance or transmittance, respectively. -
Mp(mueller_matrix)
The function
Mpreturns the sum \(M_{00} + M_{01}\) of the Mueller matrix elements, corresponding to the total intensity of the p-polarized component. -
Ms(mueller_matrix)
The function
Msreturns the difference \(M_{00} - M_{01}\) of the Mueller matrix elements, corresponding to the total intensity of the s-polarized component. -
Mueller(mueller_matrix)
The function returns the whole Mueller matrix (i.e. all 16 elements).
-
NMueller(mueller_matrix)
The function returns the normalized Mueller matrix (15 elements in total, excluding \(M^0_{00}\), which is equal to 1).
Meta functions
They take other functions as their argument.
-
Add(function1, function2)
Returns the sum of the functions, \(f_1 + f_2\).
-
Difference(function1, function2)
Returns the difference of the functions, \(f_1 - f_2\).
-
Product(function1, function2)
Returns the product of the functions, \(f_1 \cdot f_2\).
-
Ratio(function1, function2)
Returns the ratio of the functions, \(f_1 / f_2\).
Functions for computing optical constants
These functions take as their argument a medium defined in the media section (represented by a \(3\times3\) complex dielectric tensor).
-
OC(medium)
The function
OCreturns the complex refractive index formedium. It assumes that the input dielectric tensor is isotropic, and therefore computes \(\sqrt{\hat{\varepsilon}_{11}}\). -
DF(medium)
The function
DFreturns the complex dielectric function formedium. It assumes that the input dielectric tensor is isotropic. -
F(medium)
The function
Freturns the complex transition strength function formedium. It assumes that the input dielectric tensor is isotropic.
